Special needs kitten Phoenix is looking for a special home

Meet Phoenix -- a blue-eyed, orange-white kitten with a quirky possum-face. But that's not what's truly special about him. You see, Phoenix was born with two back deformed legs. He was rescued from an out-of-control colony of 50+ cats and kittens that CCARS was able to help over the summer months through systematic medical treatment and spay-neuter.

Phoenix has been in loving foster care since July. At first it was heartbreaking to see his legs get tangled up and him become frustrated, but he has learnt to become tangle-free and maneuver himself using his two strong front legs. And despite having to drag his back legs, Phoenix uses his litter box well.

The little guy does live up to his name by rising above the unfortunate hand he was dealt with.

Phoenix's favorite activity is play time. Swish around a feather toy or a fake mouse on a pole and Phoenix gets super excited, waddling at full speed, chasing after his "prey". He also loves his swirly scratching post. Get down on his level, and he becomes extra sweet, cozying up to you with his motor purring.

Phoenix's wish this Christmas is to find a forever home. He would do really well in a home with another cat or a dog, since he needs a furry playmate. And a human who will understand his special needs.

Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only

Clay County Animal Rescue & Shelter is located at 375 Water Elm Lane, Flora, IL. Our phone number is 618-665-3005.  We are renovating our shelter so hours are by appointment only.

The typical adoption fee for dogs is $150.  It includes vaccination, deworming , spay/neuter, heartworm testing on dogs of age and microchipping, which is now mandatory by state law.  Some dogs we discount to as little as $50 due to sponsorship.  Some dogs we ask a higher adoption fee, which helps us recoup expenses on heartworm treatment on other dogs.

All cats are spayed/neutered/vaccinated/flea treated/dewormed and microchipped prior to adoption.  Cat adoption fees range from $60-$100.  We spay/neuter/microchip/vaccinate and deworm all kittens and cats, prior to adoption.  Our shyer/less adoptable cats are classed as "barn cats" and are free with a completed/approved barn cat application, which can be found on our website.
